Waldorf / Steiner Daycare in Zurich
15 daycares
A Waldorf daycare — also called Steiner; the terms are interchangeable — follows the approach Rudolf Steiner shaped in the early twentieth century. The day moves to a slow rhythm: the same songs and stories tend to recur on the same weekday, meals are ritualised, festivals follow the seasons, and natural materials (wood, wool, beeswax) replace plastic. Screens have no place in the room.
What sets Waldorf apart from a standard kita is the emphasis on imitation-led learning and predictability. Children watch the carer knead bread, then knead alongside; the rhythm of circle time, free play, shared meal, and outdoor walk anchors the morning. The approach tends to suit children who thrive on repetition and have plenty of room for imaginative play. Note that the philosophy draws on anthroposophy as a worldview but is not a religious programme; festivals are observed culturally.
Most Zurich Waldorf nurseries operate full-day schedules, though a few Steiner-affiliated centres run shorter days — verify opening hours per location.
